how I joined Notion early (< 15  person team) with no job description

people often ask me how I started working at Notion early on. I love sharing this story. it’s a pretty unique path and a testament to how special the team is at Notion.

in 2018, I came across Notion on Product Hunt. it looked like an interesting product, so I signed up. over the next few weeks, I tried it out a few times. on the fourth try, it really clicked for me. I started moving all my notes and projects into Notion. for the first time, I felt as if I could visualize my brain with software.

my first cold email to founder/CEO of Notion:

exploration

i’ve been playing around with perpexlity and arc search recently, i think both are building compelling versions of what the future of search looks like.

  1. perplexity - i’ve been really impressed with the response quality I get here from my search queries. on every search, you’ll get sources, images, and related searches. I’d recommend trying this out over chatgpt or google to see what you get.

  2. arc search - like every update from Browser Company, this one is exciting. the “browse for me” feature creates beautiful pages compiling resources on whatever your search might be. they’ve gotten really good at creating these kinds of delightful experiences and this one doesn’t dissapoint.
